Survey: Toyota most popular car brand in the world

Toyota is the most popular car brand in the world, according to a survey turned infographic from Automotive Touchup. Volkswagen is in second place, followed by Renault, Hyundai and Chevrolet. 

The survey reveals which brands and car models, via market share, are preferred in each country. Toyota remains the top brand in terms of market share for approximately 42 countries. 

However, in Canada the top brand is Ford with 15.3% of the market share, and the Ford F-Series was the best-selling model in 2020. In the United States, the preferred car brand is General Motors, with 17.3% of the market share, and the Ford F-Series is the preferred model (series). 

In the United Kingdom, Ford reigns supreme again with 9.4% of the market share, and the preferred car model is the Ford Fiesta  —  overall, and in England and Northern Ireland. The Vauxhall Corsa is the preferred car model for Scotland and Wales. 

In Germany, the top brand is Volkswagen with 18.0% of the market share, and the Volkswagen Golf with 4.7% of the market share.

The most popular car models are based on data pulled from each individual country (2019-2020). The percentage of market share is not available for all models, as the information is not complete for every country. 

The most popular car models in the world, in terms of the number of countries the vehicle is most popular in, include the Toyota Hilux (14 countries), Toyota Corolla (6), Toyota Land Cruiser (6), Skoda Octavia (6), Toyota RAV4 (5), and Renault Clio (5).
